What are the five Human Design types?

There are five Human Design types: Generator, Manifesting Generator, Manifestor, Projector, and Reflector. Your type is decided by which energy centers in your chart are defined, and it comes with one Strategy — the single move that makes life stop fighting you.

How your type is determined

Type is mechanical, not chosen. It falls out of which centers in your BodyGraph are defined and how they connect: whether the Sacral center is switched on, and whether a motor center has a direct line to the Throat.

A defined Sacral makes you a Generator — or a Manifesting Generator if a motor also reaches the Throat. No Sacral but a motor to the Throat makes you a Manifestor. No Sacral and no motor to the Throat makes you a Projector. And a chart with no defined centers at all makes you a Reflector.

The five types and their Strategies

Generator — Strategy: to respond. Manifesting Generator — Strategy: to respond. Manifestor — Strategy: to inform. Projector — Strategy: wait for the invitation. Reflector — Strategy: wait a lunar cycle.

Those five sentences are the whole of it. Everything else in Human Design is detail hung on that frame, and every type has a way of being magnificent that no other type can copy.

Why the types are not a ranking

There is no better type. The Generator has stamina the Projector will never have; the Projector sees systems the Generator cannot see from inside them; the Manifestor starts what nobody else would start; the Reflector reads the health of a whole room. A world made only of one of them would collapse.

The frustration most people carry is not that they have the wrong type. It is that they have been running a Strategy that belongs to someone else.

Common questions

Can your Human Design type change?

No. Type is fixed by your birth chart and does not change over a lifetime. If a reading gives you a different type than one you were given before, the usual cause is a wrong or missing birth time.

Which Human Design type is the rarest?

The Reflector, whose chart has no defined centers at all. It is by a wide margin the least common of the five.

What is the difference between Strategy and Authority?

Strategy is how you engage the world; Authority is how you decide. Strategy comes from your type and is the same for everyone who shares it. Authority is more specific to your chart and tells you where in your body the true yes and no actually live.
